Our Community Garden is Thriving! The Weeds Aren't!
Our Community Garden is Thriving! The Weeds Aren't!
In this community garden plot update video, we take a look at how well the black plastic is preventing the weeds from coming up alongside our corn and winter squash. This is also a garden tour 2024 update video where we show you just how well everything is growing in our community allotment gardening space.
One of the things we have struggled with over the past few seasons while growing at our community garden plot is that we can't often make it over to the space for regular care, and so this means that we are overtaken by weeds, and even though we have still gotten good harvests, we wanted to try to limit the amount of weeds we are dealin...

These Red Rat Tail Radishes are a Must-Try This year, we grew a most unique radish! The red rat tail radish seeds given to us by our community member Sabby have quickly become a new favorite here at Guten Gardening. This radish variety is unique because it is grown not for the greens nor for the radishes themselves, but rather they are grown for their edible seed pods. Now, as far as I know, al...

Hello. We hope this message finds you are well and thriving in good spirits! 😊 Great video and gratitude for taking time to make & share with us. However, would i add honey re aphid infestation brought about by ants harvesting for food? Every year for the past 3 decades the sweetcorn, sunflowers, and nasturtium plants take a hard hit from the lil blighters; mean them no harm but got ladybirds here yet found we had to bring in some local larvae (tiny!) and apparently the ants that make it past the thick layers of vaseline will most definitely seek out the babies for destruction due to the sole purpose of protecting their food source. That much i can confirm as fact ✌🏾🐛🦋 I digress! What we're wondering is would honey or banana or fractions of dried mulberries soaked in distilled rainwater be wise as a food source for the beneficial insects if there are ants that we miss still around/on/in the/any plant that is a more black tone with few green areas, obviously loaded with their harvest/food source? Surely, that's going to draw them toward any/the larvae hideout inside their cardboard save haven? Have just released 10 in a paper envelope high up on plant with some paper shavings inside. Want to try your method though. Just glad am keeping 40 aside before making any other moves... your time is are valued & precious. Apologies re long interjection ✌🏾💫🐞🐌🌻🌾🌿🐝💐🍀

Where I live (maybe everywhere) purslane and spurge seem to grow in tandem with each other. It’s easy to tell them apart though, so I weed the spurge out and eat the purslane.

I'm in WI, and the only way I can get a season long enough to grow sweet potatoes fully is to plant them in garden boxes on wheels, so I can roll them inside to finish the season. I'm 6B. I was going to try to give them an earlier start in the winter, but my husband thought my sweet potatoes I was saving for starts were not good enough to eat and thew them our!l Maybe next year.

Purslane showed up last year in my fairly new raised beds. She volunteered from somewhere! Maybe the birds, maybe the mulch or compost but there she was! I was so excited as, somehow I recognized it as purslane from earlier herb studies. So I checked online, just to be sure and began harvesting to eat. Yummy! Now it self-seeds and is back again this year! I leave her alone and although we’ve had drought here for several weeks, she’s come back after a rain and I harvested some. Plan to keep it as a ground cover and edible super-food!

Wonderful, informative video. Among the few videos I've watched about purslane, you are the only one to warn people about purslane's high oxalate content. I noticed that my joints would feel creaky after certain dinners at my mother's home. She is an avid gardener and plant forager, and she absolutely loves purslane. I will need to skip it when she prepares it as a side dish and salad.

You should plant the boxes in between bigger plants like tomatoes, they each have their own growing space and soil. Feed them more compost I used to get massive amounts of,even my Yukon Golds gave me high yields. I used to hill them with compost emptied from mushroom growers near me.

🏋️🏋️purslane is a safe plant to eat. The issue is that if you crave sweets, then this plant will not help u at all. Why? Because it carries the same vibration as cane sugar, stevia, blue agave, etc. Yes, this plant is very beneficial as a plant-based remedy, but only for those people who rarely eat or prefer sweet things.❤❤

I have yet to get any and they’ve been in the ground for two months at this point. So I’m going to focus on eggplant 🍆 next year.
